Ms. Russo is a choreographer and dance educator certified in K-12 education in both New York and New Jersey. Emma is an alumni of UCHS and its dance program graduating in 2011. During her time at UCHS as a student she was a part of the original UCHS Dance Company in 2009 and danced for the Drillettes Dance Team. She also choreographed and asst. choreographed the following musicals here at the high school: Smoke Joe's Cafe, The Wiz, and Pippin.
She is a graduate of Brown University, where she earned her BA in Performance Studies, and New York University, where she received her MA in Dance Education. She currently teaches and choreographs for dance programs, universities, intensives, studios, and showcases across the tri-state area. She has also worked as a educational consultant for Dancers Responding to Aids and served as the student representative for the National Dance Education Organization in 2017. As a student and educator she has traveled abroad to teach and learn dance in Uganda and will be traveling to South Africa in 2018.
As an artist, she has created a large body of work. In 2016, she participated in Doug Varone’s prestigious DevicesWorkshop/Mentorship program for select promising emerging choreographers. Her work as a choreographer has been showcased at various venues like Ailey Citigroup Theatre, Queens Theatre in the Park, Gibney Dance, Baruch Performing Arts Center, Symphony Space, Triskelion Arts, Salvatore Capezio Theater at Peridance, Thespis Theater Festival, and Highline Ballroom.
