I am John Slater, a Graphic Design teacher at Union City High School. I specialize in creating a myriad of high-technology displays using different mediums such as photographs and illustrations for an urban, multicultural school district. I am also fortunate to teach these fine arts skills and more to my students. 


Over the past 16 years, I have been teaching graphic design students of all ages, abilities, and ethnically diverse backgrounds. In fact, I also teach English as a second language at the college level. With my 10 years of professional agency experience, I turnkey the trade skills I have acquired to my students, as well as my continued passion for Graphic Design. Graphic Design

This course is designed to engage students in creative thinking, and visual problem solving by applying advanced computer graphic tools. Units of instruction will focus on developing expertise in the use of various Adobe applications, Photoshop, Final Cut software, scanners, and digital cameras to create professional and original artistic visuals. Students will use the elements and principles of design to create posters, banners, and artistic school calendars.

This advanced course is designed to build upon what students have learned in graphic design. Advanced topics and concepts will be explored and students will be required to design challenging projects and produce professional pieces, while still adhering to the graphic design principles. Students will also develop and create a graphic design portfolio if they decide to pursue this field at the college level.
