Biotechnology Club

About
The Biotechnology Club is an extension of the Waksman Student Scholars Program, a three week summer intensive that "provides opportunities for high school students and their teachers to conduct an authentic research project in molecular biology and bioinformatics and publish their findings."

Research Project
Students have been working on sequencing and analyzing the DNA of Landoltia punctata, an aquatic plant that has promise as a possible biofuel and has uses in bioremediation.

Requirements
Students have to have completed Biology to be able to participate. One student is selected in the spring to attend the summer institute. More students are able to join the club and participate during the year, attend meetings at Rutgers University, and present research at the Poster Forum in June at Rutgers University.

Meetings
The Biotech Club meets on Wednesdays from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. There are four meetings at Rutgers University that occur during the academic year, usually on Fridays that students also must attend, as well as present their research at the end of the year poster forum.
